April 2008           Current schedule

Events

Summer Schedule Change:
May 3rd

After your many suggestions from last year we have revamped our summer schedule, now both you and our staff have weekends off. Go camping! Have a BBQ! Spend some time with your family, enjoy!

Don't forget that as of May 3rd, we are now on the NEW spring/summer schedule. Click on the following link to view the schedule: http://www.tienlung.com/edmonton/schedule.htm

Great Human Race

The Great Human Race takes place on Saturday, May 3rd at Sir Winston Churchill Square. This is a great way to raise money for those of our junior and senior athletes in the competitive program! To make pledges you can either approach the person you're donating to, or you can leave your pledge at the front desk in an envelope with your name and phone number on it as well as the name of the person the pledge is going to. You can also pledge on-line at http://www.unitedthisistheway.com/

Lost & Found Items

The lost & found bins are overflowing! On Saturday, April 26th, ALL lost and found items will be placed along the walls in the warm up area of the main floor for students and parents to sort through. This is a good opportunity to look for any items that you or your child may have lost. Any items not picked by Wednesday night will be sent to a second hand clothing store.

Mothers Day Class!

In honor of Mother's Day, we want you to bring your Mom, Aunt, Grandmother, older sister (or any female) to class with you on Wednesday May 7th or Thursday May 8th! Have your guest wear some comfortable clothing, and she will participate in class with you. You will be able to show her what you have learned in Taekwon-Do, and she will also be able to try some basic moves! (Don't worry-nothing too strenuous!) All you need to do is pick up a guest waiver form, and have your mom (or guest) sign it, and bring it back with you and your guest on May 7th or 8th! Looking forward to seeing you all there! Psst....this is a great way to check off "YES" for bringing a friend to the Dojang or Tien Lung function on your Qualification Requirement

Testing & Graduation

White Belt Graduation

We will be having a White Belt Graduation on Saturday, April 26th during White Belt Class from 9:00-10:00am. WHITE BELT CLASS WILL BE CANCELED, GRADUATION ONLY. Are you planning on Examining for your Black Belt?

If you are planning on examining for your Black Belt in August 2008, you need to order your Black Belt Dobok at the front desk, by April 30th. If not, any orders placed after will be subject to a late fee plus we cannot ensure that you will have a dobok in time for the graduation.

(Graduating students must arrive at 10:30 am) If you are scheduled to graduate, please ensure that you hand your book to Mr. Santos, Mr. Pagnotta, Ms. Schwanke or Mr. Pham (for Black Belts) no later than Saturday, April 26th! All paperwork and stripes MUST be completed by then. There will be NO last minute stripe testing, so plan ahead. Feel free to bring friends, family and your camera to the graduation! There will be a $2.00 admission for family and guests.

Little Dragon Testing

Little Dragon testing will take place on Saturday, April 26th, at 10:30 am. There will be no Little Dragons class that day, only testing for those who are scheduled to test. Please practice the Street Proofing & Knowledge with your child. Article: Something to Think About

"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Enthusiasm, the Key to Success

WHAT differentiates the top martial artists from the rest? Take a closer look the next time you watch them in action. It's evident that they are passionate about what they do. It is their enthusiasm that keeps them pressing on towards their goal when others quit because they're tired and weary. They are heroes to many because they are able to find that extra drive to be the best. Their enthusiasm enables them to invest one hundred percent effort, and, as a result, they enjoy what they are doing.

Enthusiasm is a state of mind that inspires you to complete the task at hand, regardless of the difficulty of the challenge. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm". Enthusiasm can be likened to steam that fuels a locomotive. It is the vital catalyst that compels a person into action. Without it, the locomotive can go nowhere, but with it, it can climb any mountain. Success in any part of your life depends greatly on how enthusiastic you are about learning new things, achieving your goals, progressing to higher levels and improving yourself in every way. To achieve success in your life, it is key to have an inner voice that says over and over, "I can do it!" when others shout, "No, you can't!"

Beyond being vital to your success, your enthusiasm can affect the success of others because enthusiasm is contagious! When you have enthusiasm, everyone around you feels it too. Choose today to display enthusiasm in every part of your life, and watch the effect it has on you and your family, friends and all those around you.
