Tien Lung Invitational Tournament

Thanks to all who came out and participated in the 2009 Tien Lung Invitational Tournament.  A special thanks to the volunteers who helped make the event a success for the three hundred competitors.  Please see the results in the recognition section of this newsletter.

Buddy Day

We are having a Buddy Day on February 10th!  Bring your friends, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, etc to the Dojang for a fun class filled with games, self-defence, fitness, and board breaking.  All classes this evening will be combined, and will begin at 6:15pm. 
Little Dragons will have their buddy day during their regular class time at 5:30 pm. 

Don’t forget, this is an excellent way to fill your Qualification Code requirements for your new chapter. 

Tax Receipts

Tax Receipts for the 2009 Daily Dragon Program will be ready for pick up on February 28^th 2010, and will be issued to the payor of record.  Other students requiring a receipt for 2009 may send a request to Miss Laton at d.laton@tienlung.com prior to February 15, 2010.  These receipts will also be ready for pick up on February 28^th 2010.  Anyone who would prefer to receive the receipt by e-mail may also make this request.  Please be sure to include the first and last name of the student.

Fitness Registration

Anyone examining for his or her Black Belt will need to sign up and pay for the fitness part of the exam at the Front Desk and cost is $15.00.  Please note: Red Stripes & Red Belts also need to register for and complete their practice fitness exam this weekend as part of their Qualification Code requirements.

Directions:

Proceed North on 97 Street past the city limits and follow the signs to go North straight into the base.
Proceed straight into the town. Turn left at the first intersection after the 4-Way Stop.
Make a right turn into the parking lot of the large white recreation and fitness centre, Edmonton Garrison Military Fitness Centre – Look for the Tien Lung Van!!

December Graduation

Just a reminder that if you are planning to graduate this term, you need to have all your stamps and Qualification Code requirements completed by December 12, 2009. No exceptions will be made!   As with the last graduation, Little Dragons will also be a part of this exciting event! They will be receiving their next badge/stripe this weekend and performing some of their moves at the ceremony.  The Graduation will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the Northlands Agricom, Hall D. Tickets are $2.00 each for spectators.  Please bring exact change to the graduation, no change will be given.  Bring your friends, family and your camera to the graduation!

12:00 pm: Check In – Northlands Agricom. Students please enter on the main floor and head to the change rooms to change, and parents & spectators are asked to have a seat in the stands. Students must be changed into their FULL Dobok and BELT for check in.

1:30 pm: Graduation commences

White Belt Graduation
White Belts who have all 4 black stripes and all their paperwork completed, will be graduating to Yellow Stripe on December 20, 2009. To find out if you qualify, please be sure to speak to your Instructor.

Qualification Code Meeting
WHEN: Friday, January 15, 2010 at 6:15 pm (during Prep Class).
WHO:   Students who graduated to Red Stripe in December 2009
            Students testing for the Black Belt or New Dan in April of 2010
You must bring your Student Manual and tournament and seminar certificates. Black Belt Candidates must also fill out their choice of board breaks (numbers 9 & 10) on page 39 of your student manual so that Sabumnym Wisniewski can choose the colour of board(s) for you.  Please see Mr. Pagnotta if you have any questions about this meeting.

Black Belt Candidates testing in April 2010: DOBOK ORDER
Be sure to order your Black Belt Dobok now!!  Black Belt doboks will now be ordered from Sasung, the same dobok that the competitors wear to the World Championships.  The deadline to order is JANUARY 29^th, 2010.  See the Front Desk to place your order.

All Students

Rules within the International Taekwon-Do Federation are changing.  Effective January 2010, it will be mandatory for all students 17 and under to wear a helmet when sparring.  If you do not have a helmet, be sure to purchase one as soon as possible. We have been given some time for everyone affected to get a helmet, but after April 2010 no exceptions will be made.

T.L.P. Meeting

The next T.L.P. (Tien Lung Leadership Program) meeting will be on Tues, December 15^th 5:30 pm.  Note that this program runs year round and students and is for students who want learn to become leaders both inside and outside of Tien Lung Taekwon-Do. This program also trains you to become one of our Tien Lung Instructors and is open to any students who are Blue Belt and above and at least 8 years of age. Simply see Mr. Pagnotta or Mr. Hansen if you are interested, and attend the meetings. Look your best for this meeting as Mrs. Wisniewski will be taking photos for the wall in the warm up area.  

Competitive Program

To all members interested in the Competitive Program, please be advised that the Competitive Program resumed at the end of October.  Evening competitive classes are on Tuesday & Thursday from 7:30-9:00 pm.  If you are interested in taking your training to the next level and becoming a National or WORLD CHAMPION, don’t delay! See your instructors for details.

“Pursuit of Excellence” Program

S.W.A.T. (Special Winning Attitude Team) Program

This optional program has been specially designed to encourage students to develop their leadership qualities and embrace their position of being a role model for their juniors.

Christmas Camp

WHEN: Tuesday, December 29th until noon on December 31. (No camp on January 1st)

COST:  Full Camp - $90.00 per child (BBC-$75.00 MC-$65.00)

Daily Rate - $40 per day (sorry, no daily BBC or MC rates available).

WHO:  Ages 5 to 12 years old

We are having a Christmas Break Camp! Bring the kids to the Dojang during the day while they're off school after Christmas (from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm). This is a great way to get extra Taekwon-Do practice and have some fun! The camp will be from Tuesday, December 29th until noon on December 31. (No camp on January 1st).

Daily Dragons Christmas Camp

WHEN:  December 21, 22, 23, 29, 30, and until noon on December 31. (No camp on January  1st)

COST:   Included in your Daily Dragon Fees (Please confirm your attendance)

WHO:    All Daily Dragons

Please let the front desk know if your child(ren) are attending by Dec 11^th, 2009 at the latest. This enables the camp to run smoothly and assists us with scheduling and purchasing supplies.

Tien Lung Weekend Seminar B

WHEN:  February 19, 20 & 21, 2010!

COST:   $150.00, BBC $120.00 MC $105.00

WHO:     All belt levels, ages 8 and older

Come and learn directly from Sabumnyms Wisniewski! This course is open to students of all belt levels.  This particular weekend will cover a range of topics including sparring concepts and drills, black belt sparring techniques, pressure points and learning how to judge and referee!

Mark your calendar, as this seminar is MANDATORY in order to examine for your BLACK BELT. Be sure to plan in advance as it will not be offered again until FEBRUARY of 2012.  If you are testing for your black belt in 2010 or 2011, you will need to take this course if you haven't already done so. The more seminars you go to the better off you will be! This is a great opportunity to review your basics, even for Black Belts.  Besides, what a great way to spend the weekend, surrounded by other martial art enthusiasts having a blast all weekend long!

Teacher’s Convention Camp

WHEN:  February 25th and 26^th, 2010 from 7:30 am-5:30 pm

COST:    Daily Dragons:  Included in your Fees (Please confirm your attendance)

  All others:  $60.00 ($50.00 BBC, $40.00 MC)

WHO:     Ages 5 to 12 years old.

Do you need something to do while you parents are at work?  Why not spend your time down at the Dojang?   You can play games, do crafts, watch movies, and even get some Taekwon-Do. Please register at the front desk.  Spaces fill up fast, so hurry!
